The Moormans River Trout Management Area (MRTMA) is managed by Thomas Jefferson Trout Unlimited (TJTU) in partnership with Therapeutic Adventures (TA). The MRTMA is part of a long-term plan to improve accessibility and eco- stewardship of this environment just below the Sugar Hollow Dam.
Within the Moormans River Trout Management Area (MRTMA), you will find the special regulations “flies only” “Catch and Release” section of the Moormans River, The Paths to Happiness Accessibility Project, the John Kostanecki Memorial Trail, and the adjacent stream side wilderness areas which extend from the Sugar Hollow Dam approximately 1 mile east on Route 614.
Some of the adaptive programs offered at the MRTMA by Thomas Jefferson Trout Unlimited (TJTU) in partnership with Therapeutic Adventures (TA) include: (1) Bug SlingerTM Warriors – Adaptive Fly Fishing Instruction and Adaptive Guide Services, (2) Annual Fall – ADAPTIVE ANGLERS ON THE FLY – Fly Fishing Camp for Disabled, (3) Annual SPRING FLY FLING – Fly Fishing & Therapeutic Outdoor Retreat for Women Cancer Survivors, and (4) OPERATION FREEDOM OUTDOORS – Adaptive Fly Fishing Programs for our Disabled Heroes – Military, Warfighters, Veterans, 1st Responders and their families.
